Look At Me and Tell Me What You See, by Jeffrey M. Baker

Look at me and tell me what you see,
Do I look so different from anybody?

Why do you stare with expressionless faces,
And whisper behind hands while walking your paces?

The pain on my face you clearly can see,
But what do you see when looking at me?

Bear this in mind that I suffer too.
So what is it that makes me so different from you?

My clothing is clean and neatly pressed
For this situation that has caused such distress.

Do you see a man or my identity?
Stop looking at the “gay” and start looking at me.

  1. We only find each other when we look beyond the stereotype. It's so painful to feel like the eternal "other."
