The Loving Heart and Dagger of Indifference, by Jeffrey M. Baker

The struggle has raged on for many years
The battle between love and indifference
The blade so close to the heart
This sharp blade of indifference
To feel the need to pull away
To keep the loving heart safe
The compelling need to draw the blade in
To experience the world of no cares
To drive the blade deeper
To kill all desire of feeling love
To drive away all who are close
To bring those who are close closer
To plunge them into the world of indifference
To spread it across the world
To preserve the good seems futile
The glorious feeling of numbness
The need to no longer care
This is the compelling drive of indifference
To give in is success, or failure
To save what is good
To preserve the heart
To be okay
To be enough

  1. It's an eternal battle, isn't it, Jeff? Do we want to take the risk or do we want to remain safe? -- The dagger is a fierce and compelling metaphor.
