To Live and Mock, by Eric Gale-Anderson

When someone dies young
The mystery of your own
Good luck finds a voice.
Your life thrives above
The souls of the fallen.

When someone dies young
Mocking their existence,
With your effervescent life,
Dooms you like a
Doctor to malpractice.
Time will inevitably take its course,
And your life would
Become like a floor board,
Creaking loose from its place.

When someone dies young
You are framed like a portrait,
By the forces unknown.
Your essence is captured and sealed away.
Life is nothing but an afterthought now.

  1. What an evocative poem, Eriq. The last two lines are especially compelling: "Your essence is captured and sealed away. Life is nothing but an afterthought now."

  2. I thought this was really beautiful and truthful. You emotions really come through.
